Warriors' Guild

Animated armour on six floors plus a token-gated cyclops room that drops defenders.

7 armour tiers

The Warriors' Guild sits at the edge of Burthorpe, and it exists for one reward: defenders. You hand complete plate sets to the animation altars, kill what rises, and collect warrior tokens. Those tokens buy you minutes inside the cyclops rooms above and below the guild. Every defender in the game comes from there.

Getting through the doors

The guild stands at the edge of Burthorpe. The doors only let you through if your Attack and Strength levels add up to 100 or more between them. There is no quest requirement and no single minimum level, just that combined total. A games necklace or a skills necklace drops you right at the entrance. Inside, the ground floor holds two bankers and Slayer Master Sumona, who hands out boss tasks, so you can restock and pick up a task without leaving the building.

If you die anywhere in the guild your gravestone appears back at the entrance, so a bad pull in a cyclops room costs you a short walk rather than a long corpse run. Defenders are an exception to the usual death rules: they are untradable and go straight to your bank rather than dropping, so the one you own is never at risk. Dying does end a paid cyclops session, though, and you have to pay your way back in.

Animations and warrior tokens

Three animation altars stand in a row on the ground floor, with the Animation master beside them to explain what they do. Click an altar and pick a metal from the menu: bronze, iron, steel, black, mithril, adamant or rune. You need the complete plate set for that metal in your inventory, full helm, platebody, platelegs and boots. The altar takes all four pieces and an animated suit of that armour rises in front of you. It is bound to you, so no other player can damage it or steal the kill.

Kill the animation and every piece of the set comes back to you, along with a payout of warrior tokens. Until it dies your armour stays with the suit, and no altar will start a new one while yours is still standing: it simply tells you to go and finish it. The payout climbs with the metal, from 5 tokens for bronze through iron, steel, black, mithril and adamant, up to 40 tokens for a rune set.

The suits get much tougher as the metal improves. Bronze is a level 11 fight with a shallow health pool. Iron is level 23, steel level 46, black level 69, mithril level 92 and adamant level 113. Rune tops the ladder at level 138 with the deepest health pool of the seven. Rune pays best per kill, but a slow rune kill burns more food than the extra tokens are worth, so pick the tier you can actually kill quickly.

Paying to fight cyclops

Kamfreena stands on the upper floor, outside the cyclops room. Talk to her with at least 10 tokens and she sends you in. Entry costs 10 tokens, and every further minute inside costs another 10. Your remaining token count is shown while you are anywhere in the guild, so you can watch it drain. When a payment leaves you at zero you get a warning, and the moment the next payment fails you are teleported out. You can also walk out through the exit whenever you like.

The room is full of cyclops, level 65, melee only, with a solid hit but fairly light armour for their level. They always drop big bones, and rarer rolls give steel battleaxes, steel maces and steel two-handed swords, with the mithril dagger rarer again. None of that is the point. While you are inside the room, and only while you are inside it, a cyclops can rarely drop a defender.

The defender chain

Defenders come as a fixed ladder: bronze, iron, steel, black, mithril, adamant, rune. The cyclops only ever offer the next step up from the one you are carrying, so your current defender has to be in your inventory while you fight. With none at all you can only receive a bronze. Carrying a mithril means adamant is the only defender that can drop for you. Kamfreena names the one your inventory currently qualifies for before you pay.

Every step is a rare drop, so plan on several token-funded visits rather than one lucky trip. Once you hold a rune defender the upper room has nothing left for you, and Kamfreena will say as much. Each defender you receive is recorded in your collection log.

The lower room and the dragon defender

Beneath the guild sits a second cyclops room run by Lorelai. She charges the same 10 tokens to enter and 10 for every further minute, but she will not open the door unless you have a rune defender in your inventory. Arrive without one and she turns you away, so finish the whole upper chain first.

The cyclops down here are level 90, with more health, a heavier hit and noticeably better armour than the ones above. Their ordinary loot is upgraded to match: big bones every time, then rarer rolls of mithril battleaxes, adamant maces, rune two-handed swords and the rune dagger. The prize is the dragon defender, and it is very rare, a clear step rarer than the defenders on the floor above.

What a defender does

A defender goes in your off-hand and only works from there. It adds a melee damage bonus and takes the same amount off your ranged and magic damage, so it is a pure melee item. Holding a two-handed weapon in your main hand switches the effect off completely. Each tier also carries an Attack level requirement, and below that level you get no bonus at all.

The melee bonus runs +1% for bronze, +2% iron, +3% steel, +4% black, +5% mithril, +6% adamant, +7% rune and +8% dragon, with a matching penalty to ranged and magic at each step. The Attack requirements run 1, 5, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 in the same order. The dragon defender is the only one that also counts as a shield, adding defence against melee, ranged and magic on top of its damage bonus, and that shield half needs Defence 60 as well. Every defender is untradable.

Inside the guild

What you fight and what you win

Animation master

Stands beside the three altars on the ground floor. He explains what the altars do and points you up to the cyclops room where the tokens are spent. He buys and sells nothing.

Kamfreena

The gatekeeper of the upper cyclops room. She takes your tokens, names the defender your current inventory qualifies for, and sends you in.

Lorelai

Runs the lower cyclops room, beneath the guild. She checks your inventory for a rune defender before opening the door and charges tokens at the same rate as Kamfreena.

Bronze animation Level 11

The cheapest suit to raise and the easiest fight in the guild. Kill it to recover your bronze plate set and a small handful of tokens.

Steel animation Level 46

A mid-ladder suit with a solid health pool. A sensible target once you can kill it without chewing through your food.

Mithril animation Level 92

A real fight with just over a thousand health, paying a strong token return. Bring a proper weapon and supplies.

Rune animation Level 138

The toughest animation and the biggest token payout, with the deepest health pool of the seven. Only worth running if your kill speed justifies the food.

Cyclop Level 65

Fills the upper room. Melee only, hits hard, but lightly armoured for its level. Always drops big bones, rarely drops steel weaponry, and while you are paying to be in the room it can rarely drop the next defender in your chain.

Cyclop (lower room) Level 90

The upgraded version beneath the guild, with more health, a stronger attack and better armour. Drops upgraded weaponry and, very rarely, the dragon defender.
